The second section takes you through the "divided" city of Ulm into the Free State of Bavaria, within whose borders you will reach Passau. The destination of this stage is Ingolstadt. Clean bathing lakes in the Donauried (Danube River marshes) invite you to swim, and at the mouths of the tributaries, you will roam through wetlands rich in flora and fauna. The old residential towns along the banks of the Danube beckon with their historic town centers. In towns like Günzburg, Dillingen, or Höchstädt, you can admire the magnificent Baroque and Renaissance buildings. Even if the cycle path doesn't always take you through the old princely towns, a detour is always worthwhile. The stretch between the free imperial and trading city of Donauwörth and Neuburg is characterized by the foothills of the Franconian Alb, which extends here to the banks of the Danube. After a varied up and down, you reach the small town of Neuburg, which welcomes you with its mighty castle and romantic townscape.
The cycling route alternates between cycle paths, quiet side roads, and unpaved field, forest, and riverside paths. You'll rarely cycle on busy roads. There are only a few climbs along the route.
