Jura trail - Stage 1

Kelheim - Bad Abbach

The first stage of the Jurasteig Trail begins in the Wittelsbach town of Kelheim at the Danube boat landing, from where the route leads through the old town. Those interested in cultural history can make worthwhile detours, for example, to the Liberation Hall of King Ludwig I or the archaeological museum.

To the north of the town, the Jurasteig Trail immediately climbs the Goldberg, where, with its shady beech forests, a typical Jura landscape first appears. Shortly before Kapfelberg, a magnificent view of the Danube Valley with the Teufelsfelsen rocks near Bad Abbach offers itself, before the Jurasteig crosses to the other side of the Danube near Poikam. The route continues along a beautiful path through an idyllic hillside forest, directly into the spa gardens in Bad Abbach, where Emperor Charles V once harnessed the powers of Bad Abbach's healing springs.
