The hiking trail begins in Donauwörth's city center, on the old town island of Ried, and leads past historic buildings of the former Free Imperial City. Along the promenade, "the city's green lung," we reach Calvary Hill, Schellenberg Hill, and finally, on the foothills of the Franconian Jura, the Zirgesheim district. The trail continues to Schäfstall. From the parish church of St. Felizitas, we have a wonderful view of the Lech-Danube Valley. After a few meters, we reach the "Napoleon Stone." This is where Emperor Napoleon observed his troops crossing the Lech River.
Passing orchards, we reach the Zirgesheim district. Following the Edelweiss Trail, we reach Wichtelesberg and continue downhill past the Parkhotel to the Danube. The former "Hotel Krebs," built in the neoclassical style and now the "Maximilium" medical center, is impressive. A view from the Danube bridge itself of the so-called Donauspitz at the turnaround, namely the confluence of the Danube and Wörnitz, is worthwhile. We walk into the city center, along the banks of the Wörnitz and the city wall, until we return to the starting point.
