High above the Danube Valley The parish and pilgrimage church of St. Peter and Paul in Oberelchingen is enthroned. Emperor Napoleon was also here. His visit, however, was not a peaceful one. In the historic Battle of Elchingen on October 14, 1805, around the Benedictine monastery church, his troops defeated the Austrian army. This was the beginning of the end of the Holy Roman Empire. From the idyllic monastery garden, there is a wide view of the green belt of the Danube Valley to Ulm Minster. From Thalfingen, we head straight up to the Oberelchingen Monastery Church. In Unterelchingen, we can take our first dip in the cool water at the idyllic Schützensee lake. The next stop is the Oberfahlheim Art Museum, where the Neu-Ulm district presents contemporary art from the region. Via Straß, Steinheim, and Finningen, we can take a second swim at Ludwigsfelder See lake. Passing the Wiley residential area with its popular leisure park, we cross Neu-Ulm and at the Gänstorbrücke bridge, we cross the DanubeVia Ulm's city park Friedrichsau we reach the Danube back to our starting point.
