The landscape here is particularly shaped by the tributaries of the Danube . Water is the constant companion on this tour, which leads through the valleys of the Ablach, the Andelsbach, and the Ostrach. From Mengen, the route first follows the Ablach to the Zielfingen Lakes. The "Haus am See" (House by the Lake) is a good place to take a break. From its terrace, you have a magnificent view of one of the many lakes. The route continues along the lakes through the European bird sanctuary to Krauchenwies. The Vogelsee (Bird Lake) is a former gravel pit and is known for its rich biodiversity. After leaving the Ablach Valley, the route climbs gently and leads via Hausen and Zell am Andelsbach to just before Kalkreute. Once at the top, the route is almost level until it descends again into the Ostrach Valley shortly before Ostrach. The route continues via Jettkofen and Einhart to Granheim. Beyond Granheim, the route climbs briefly again and leads over the Missionsberg back to Mengen.
