16 Neuburg an der Donau – Ingolstadt

Start Neuburg ad Donau

The loop begins in Neuburg an der Donau with its Renaissance and Baroque architecture and leads west towards Rennertshofen, to the foothills of the Franconian Jura. At Rennertshofen, we turn into the Urdonautal valley, thus entering the Altmühltal Nature Park. After Hütting, we turn right onto the Schuttertal cycle path. A detour to the Holy Cross Church in Bergen is recommended along the way. The stretch from Nassenfels to Buxheim along the idyllic Schutter river offers a special nature experience. The final section of the route then brings the gradual transition from the countryside to the city of Ingolstadt. We leave this vibrant automotive city south of the Danube , passing through the Danube floodplains , partly on paved roads with very little traffic. The following section leads from Ingolstadt to Weichering. From there, the route continues along winding field paths and through tree-lined avenues to Grünau Castle, which houses an information center about the Danube floodplain forest. Now we return to our starting point, the city center of Neuburg an der Donau , on the last few kilometers along the Danube dike.
