Even from afar, the townscape is dominated by the Renaissance castle and the Baroque St. Martin's Church. A stroll through the late medieval old town is particularly charming. Besides the historic town hall, the numerous half-timbered houses also characterize Meßkirch's town center and lend the town a unique charm. The castle houses the district art gallery, a museum dedicated to the philosopher Martin Heidegger, who was born in Meßkirch, and a vintage car museum . Just a few kilometers outside the town, at the "Campus Galli" medieval construction site, craftsmen have been working for several years to build a medieval monastery using 9th-century methods.
