The castle is Dillingen's most imposing building . The oldest parts date back to the Hohenstaufen era (13th century). In the 15th and 16th centuries, it was transformed into a fortified castle and served for centuries as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg.
The impressive castle complex is located in the center of Dillingen. The castle gardens and courtyard are open to the public. The castle itself can be visited as part of guided city tours (please book your tour in advance).
