"The Danube springs from the Brigach and Breg rivers , bringing the Danube to life," goes an old proverb. The two main source rivers of the Danube, the Brigach (near St. Georgen) and the Breg (near Furtwangen in the Black Forest), rise in the heart of the Black Forest. From the Breg spring near the Martinskapelle chapel close to Furtwangen, the longest source river of the Danube, it is exactly 2.888 km to its mouth in the Black Sea.
