Three young women from the big city are looking for peace and relaxation - and find it in the tranquil town of Bad Gögging.
Munich – a beautiful city, rich in cultural offerings and shopping opportunities as far as the eye can see. And sometimes quite crowded. One occasionally gets the impression that the term "density stress" was invented for this city.
So, in January, we, three students in our early 20s, decided to simply leave the city and treat ourselves to a short vacation in tranquil Bad Gögging. As soon as we arrived, it became clear to us that the contrast to our adopted home of Munich could hardly be greater. Bad Gögging seemed quiet—very, very quiet. We slowed down almost immediately, going from 100 to 0 in a minute.
The hospitality with which we are welcomed does the rest to make everyday life melt away. The friendly lady at the hotel reception tells us we should feel at home – and it sounds like she really means it. Bad Gögging is a spa town, and wellness-seekers flock from all the hotels and guesthouses to the Limes Thermal Baths. We join them and shortly thereafter find ourselves in the midst of thermal spa heaven. Between the hop bath, natural mud wrap, and back massage, nothing is left to be desired – the treatments are as pleasant as the dedicated staff is friendly.
The crowds are spread out over more than 1000m², and, quite unusual for us city dwellers, you never have to reserve a lounger. And even a trip to the mountains is included in the price—or almost: In the high-altitude climate lounge, you can breathe pollen-free, low-oxygen air.
Speaking of prices: In the evening, we enjoy Bavarian home cooking at the Gasthof Eisvogel. The food is delicious and plentiful. When the bill arrives, our jaws drop. In Munich, you'd probably get half a lettuce leaf for that. We're starting to like Bad Gögging more and more!
We spend the next day at the thermal baths as well – there's so much to discover that one day simply isn't enough! The numerous retirees around us probably think the same. We're by far the youngest visitors to the thermal baths on both days. Bad timing on our part, we're told. Professional footballers from 1. FC Nuremberg and VfL Wolfsburg also like to come here for wellness treatments. Perhaps we'll have better luck next time, because one thing's for sure: We'll enjoy our next break from the big city in Bad Gögging!
