The Hide

Ulm & Blaubeuren

Charming towns covered in a white blanket of snow and crystal-blue water surrounded by lush nature – I came to know and love Ulm and Blaubeuren as a child. The perfect weekend package to show my new girlfriend the beauty of this region.

In the heart of Ulm

Our trip begins with the ringing of bells on Ulm's market square. The air tastes of winter, and our breath rises like a cold mist. My girlfriend has never been here before and never imagined the cathedral to be so high. A quick selfie, and then, of course, she wants to go up to the viewing platform. Steps upon steps. Once at the top, it's a great feeling to have completed the strenuous climb and to be above everything. The perfect spot for a few grimaces with the panorama of the city in the background.

The fishing district

The Fisherman's Quarter with its many short bridges over the Blue, small waterfalls, crooked half-timbered houses, beautifully decorated terraces that tower over the river, and birdhouses at the water's edge, I show my girlfriend during a romantic walk. She finds it particularly funny Crooked House. This also creates funny photo material here.

Enjoyment on the Danube

For me, a successful end to the day definitely includes good food. What could be better for this than a trendy restaurant on the Danube, which, in addition to a menu featuring zander fillet and rump steak, also offers a bar? My girlfriend particularly likes the cocktail selection. For once, we'll leave the photography to the bartender. Incidentally, we'll be staying at the same hotel my parents always used to book. This time, however, in the couple's suite...

Experience history up close

As a special highlight for my girlfriend, who is very interested in history, I took her the next day to the Prehistoric Museum, or Urmu for short, in Blaubeuren. At the end of the tour, we watched a film there that set the tone for the final stop of our trip and piqued her interest. She's already very excited. I'm almost certain that my girlfriend will also like my favorite place.

The Blautopf

As they say, the best comes last. We've finally reached my personal highlight: the Blautopf with its deep blue, sparkling water. And I was definitely not wrong in my assumption. At the very spot where the beautiful Lau rediscovered her smile, I also captured my friend's most beautiful smile in a photo. And yes, she discovered the secret, of course! It's the stone sculpture of the water nymph on the bank. Can you find it too?
